Thanks for the comment, Nicole. I used both a flash and reflector for fill light. I had the speedlight on camera set at -2/3 (if I remember right) and also had a well worn reflector aimed a bit below the faces. The reason I used both was that I wanted large catchlights in their eyes that a reflector gives (flash catchlights are too small) but since they're kids I didn't want to blind them with a direct reflector so I added the flash to help out.
Did you shoot this on Aperture Priority too? I look at your blog everyday and I am always delighted with a gorgeous image. Your whites are so clean and the exposure is perfect. How can I get that same look without metering (or do you use a meter?) Debbi
When I'm shooting outdoors like this, I set the camera on Aperture Priority and set the lens wide open at f/4. The flash is on AUTO TTL at -2/3 so that it doesn't overpower the subject.
