Unknown Male

He was somebody's son. Odds are he was someone's brother. He might even have been a husband and a father. We don't know if he perished at an old age or as a young child. We don't know if he died 50 years ago or 100 years ago. All we know is that he is gone.

As I photographed his headstone yesterday morning, the subject caused me to pause and think about him, the "Unknown Male". Who was he? What happened to him? Why is he in this cold, anonymous grave?

We will never know.

Hey Rich, it's Jonathan. I always knew you liked taking pictures, but you never told me you were this good! I mean it! Excellent work. Where did you find this grave site? What brought you there?

I think I know what brought Rich to this site. My guess is it was the same thing that brought me there a while back. The first time I went was before a Boy Scout made it his eagle project to clean up this historical place. Headstones were falling over and the place was trashed. There was even an open pit that would soon be the grave of an old site found in the wilderness or on private property. (This unknown male was likely one such move.) The scouts did a nice job... although nothing can take away that rotten smell of the dump when the wind is right.

As always, nice photo, Rich.
